A factory sunroof was first offered on the Thunderbird in 1960, and was manually operated. The Moonroof was a $691 option on the 1979 Thunderbird, and about 8 percent of the cars built were equipped with this feature. The sun shade panel can be manually opened or closed by hand, but it opens automatically if closed when the Moonroof is opened, and remains in the open position when the glass panel is closed. The sun shade is covered with material to match the interior headliner. Control between sun visors on right side of picture opens and closes panel, and an additional sun shade panel is provided to completely block exterior light if desired. Of the cars were Polar White, except for one that was Pastel Chamois, and The Sports Decor Group, however several documented examples do exist.
